What is a Home Comfort System? It used to be homeowners were concerned with individual appliances, such as the furnace or air conditioner. Today, your home is seen as an environmental system, and what once were treated as individual concerns are now seen as a complete “Home Comfort System.” A Home Comfort System is comprised of four elements: Cooling, Heating, Air Treatment, and Air Distribution. Proper equipment selection and good design combine these four into an energy efficient system that: Cools and dehumidifies in summer, Heats and humidifies in winter, and Cleans your indoor air all year around. To learn more about the benefits of a Home Comfort System, call Mullen today at 724-537-7203. Home Cooling The efficiency of home cooling equipment is defined by Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) standards. Higher numbers mean greater efficiency and less energy consumption. Cooling equipment also has Sound Ratio Numbers (SRN’s) to define quiet operation. Air conditioning equipment which is over ten years old operated at SEER’s 5.0 – 6.0 range. Today’s Carrier home cooling equipment provides you with: SEER Ratings among the highest of any in the industry Quick, easy replacement of older, inefficient equipment regardless of brand Dramatically reduced energy bills Extremely quiet operation Longer life and trouble-free operation Home Heating Like old cooling units, old furnaces are very inefficient. A typical furnace from the 1970s, for example, may operate at around 60% efficiency or less. Carrier’s new furnaces can bring your home: Efficiencies among the highest of any heating product Easy replacement of any brand older model Quiet, trouble-free operation Compact, space saving design Extended warranty protection Home Air Treatment To be complete, a Home Comfort System should include: Winter humidification and air cleaning superior to the minimal benefits offered by ordinary furnace filters. A Carrier Total Comfort System will: Humidify dry indoor air to improve comfort, keep furnishings in better condition, reduce static electricity Remove up to 90% of the smoke, dust, dirt and pollens found in the air, relieving allergy sufferers, reducing cleaning and protecting furnishings. Air Distribution Proper air distribution is vital to the satisfactory operation and service life of any forced air indoor comfort system. Air is distributed by the blower through ducts to rooms in your home. It is then removed by return ducts to the blower. Air circulation within your home, the essential element of comfort, is determined by the size and shape of the ducts and the location of the openings or registers, which deliver the air, and the grilles that withdraw the air. At Mullen, our experienced designers and installers make certain that: Ducts properly shaped and sized for correct air delivery to every room Grilles and registers sized and positioned for best operating efficiency All system components properly matched Carrier Comfort System can incorporate zoning of air distribution to permit: Individual area comfort settings Shutting off air to unused areas Delivery of the correct air volume to each zone Improved energy efficiency to your entire system When it comes to indoor comfort, Mullen has the experts to contact for quality design, installation and service that matches the quality of your new Carrier equipment. What Can I Do in an Emergency? At Mullen, we have qualified technicians on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If your home or business is located in Westmoreland County, PA and you need immediate help with your heating or cooling system, call us at 724-537-7203. We’ll respond to your heating and cooling emergency as quickly as possible. What Can I Do Before Calling for Service? There are some basic, common sense steps to take before calling for service on your heating and cooling system. These may seem simple, but you would be surprised how many service calls result in finding an issue with one of these three basic areas. Check disconnect switches (indoor and outdoor if you have a split system). Make sure that circuit breakers are ON and that no fuses have blown. Check for sufficient airflow. Make sure air filters are clean and that supply-air and return-air grilles are open and unobstructed. Check the settings and operation of your thermostat. If you want cooling, make sure the temperature control selector is set below room temperature and the SYSTEM switch is on the COOL or AUTO position. If you want heat, make sure the temperature control selector is set above room temperature and the SYSTEM switch is at HEAT or AUTO. The FAN switch should be set at ON for continuous blower operation or AUTO if you want the blower to function only while the unit is operating. In addition to the routine maintenance you perform, your home comfort system should be inspected at least once a year by a properly trained service technician. At Mullen, our experts will make sure your system operates safely and gives you the best performance at the lowest cost. To learn more, call Mullen today at 724-537-7203.
